About Pyla
Pyla is the neighbouring village to Oroklini. The village is located in the eastern part of the island approx. 14 kms from Larnaca City, close to the United Nations Buffer Zone in Cyprus, that separates the internationally recognised southern part of the island from the Turkish occupied northern third of the island Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Pyla is very close to the UK Dhekelia Sovereign Base Area. This village is special in that it is the only settlement in Cyprus still inhabited by both its original Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot inhabitants. There are two churches and one mosque.
Historically, Pyla goes way back in time with recent excavations proving that the area was densely populated in the Late Bronze Age. Pyla was mined for copper, silver and gold around the 13th century BC. Today, dating from the medieval times, the Pyla Tower is accessible in the village and worthy of a visit. The old village itself has everything one would expect to find: coffee shop/bars, restaurants, shops etc. The Pyla Tavern is well recommended.
Access to the south coast motorway is nearby taking you to the eastern attractions of Waterworld, Ayia Napa, Cape Greco, Potamos, and the Sovereign base Fish & Chip shop! Westwards, easy access to Nicosia, Troodos mountains and those beautiful hill villages. Also Limmasol, Kourion and Paphos. Closer to home Larnaca International Airport is at the end of a motorway spur only 20 mins away from Pyla.
Even closer is, the CTO (Cyprus tourist organisation) beach with its facilities. Beyond this Blue Flag beach, Larnaca bay sweeps round to Larnaca itself. The road there is lined in places by an immense assortment of restaurants, bars, shops, mini-markets, banks etc and of course numerous access points to the fantastic sandy beach. Larnaca itself is worthy of extensive exploration; you will not be disappointed.
Sports and nearby activities are well provided for. We are informed that the submerged wreck off Larnaca is one of the best dive sites in the Mediterranean. Bird-watching, walking, cycling, para-gliding, sailing, riding, bowling to name but a few, illustrate that all are catered for.
If after all this, you feel tired, come home to Blue Serenity, perhaps a dip in the pool, take a book or a refreshing drink up onto the roof terrace and relax in peace, take in the fantastic panoramic view, watch the sun go down ... and love Cyprus.
